Fed: Downer says significant hurdles ahead of US-Aust trade pact

CANBERRA, Jan 17 AAP - Foreign Minister Alexander Downer warned today there were still
significant hurdles to overcome before Australia and the United States reached a trade
deal.

Mr Downer heads off on a two week world tour today, which will include meetings in
Los Angeles over the free trade agreement (FTA) between Australia and the US.

The foreign minister will join a high-level contingent bound for the US, with 50 Australian
negotiators heading to Washington this weekend.
